Aruna Gunarathna is a distinguished Sri Lankan film journalist, historian, and filmmaker, best known for serving as the editor of Sarasaviya, the country’s only cinema-focused newspaper, for over twelve years. With a deep-rooted passion for cinema, he has been a member of the Sri Lanka State Film Advisory Council and has served on the jury of numerous national film, television, and literary award ceremonies. Throughout his career, he has engaged with many of the nation’s leading directors and actors, authored several books on Sri Lankan cinema history, and lectured at the Sripali Campus of the University of Colombo. Aruna has also directed ten documentaries and the telefilm Suriya Winsathi during his tenure with the Government Film Division. A regular contributor to television programs on cinema and a participant in various international film festivals, he is widely regarded as one of the foremost scholars of Sri Lankan film history.
